Micron-Diameter Metal Fiber Products
MicroLobal™ Metal Fibers
IntraMicron manufactures MicroLobal™ metal fibers using a bundle-drawing process at our facility in Auburn, AL. All fibers are custom manufactured to your specifications in diameters ranging from 1 to 30 microns and chopped to lengths ranging from 0.2 mm (200 microns) to 70 mm (consult plant for continuous tow and lengths shorter than 0.2 mm). IntraMicron is a leading supplier of electrically and thermally conductive nickel fiber.
MicroLobal™ Fibers are fabricated with a special process that results in an irregular cross section and multiple lobed sides to increase overall surface area. Depending on the application, the increase in surface area ranges from 30% to 400% compared to round or hexagonal fiber. This means that MicroLobal™ Fibers can offer smaller pore size for better filtration, wet-lay ups with thinner cross-sections for manufacturing, and better electro-magnetic shielding.
Available in a variety of alloys and formats
Fabricated from the finest commercial and research alloys, MicroLobal™ Fibers are available in a variety of formats including clean and dry chopped fiber; continuous tow, thread, and yarn; wet-laid rolls and sheets; and dry-laid rolls and sheets. Alloys like copper which are subject to oxidation in air may also be shipped in liquid to prevent oxidation.

Certified, Sampled, and Archived to Assure Quality
MicroLobal™ Fibers are manufactured to the most exacting specifications and tolerances by an experienced team of engineers & technicians. Third-party chemical analysis, transverse-dimension fiber diameter analysis, and other specialized testing is available. Product samples are archived with process data using a step-by-step tracking database to assure product traceability back to raw materials (alloy melts).
